2016 Daly Humanitarian Award Recipient

Chris Goetzinger, MD, is this year’s co-recipient of the 2016 Michael J. Daly, MD, Humanitarian Award. This award is presented each year by the Cedar Rapids Medical Education Foundation to honor the memory of Dr. Mike Daly, long‐time Cedar Rapids
surgeon who passed away in 2010. Dr. Daly was depicted in the 1984 Academy Award winning film “The Killing Fields,” which portrayed the Khmer Rouge genocide in Cambodia in the 1970s, during which Dr. Daly was captured by the Khmer Rouge while
working for the British Red Cross.

Dr. Goetzinger graduated from the Cedar Rapids Family Medicine Residency in June 2016, and now practices
family medicine in Waverly, Iowa. Since Haiti’s catastrophic earthquake in 2010, he has completed four
medical missions to the island nation. Dr. Goetzinger is a member of an organization called World Wide
Village, which is raising money to build a clinic in Haiti. He plans to return to Haiti and hopes to encourage
current and future residents to volunteer their time in the country.
