Why CRMEF?
Over the last year of my internship, I have several times been asked, “Why CRMEF?” And every time I answer this question, I find myself adding a new reason to my list.
As a residency program, CRMEF provides an excellent environment, with a balance of educational activities and clinical experiences, and with the faculty and residents sharing a great camaraderie. Indeed, the faculty at CRMEF not only supports increasingly independent decision-making, but also encourages residents to take ownership of their own patients and to remain readily accessible at every step in patient care. Moreover, as a community-based program, CRMEF benefits from the tremendous support we receive from our community specialists and preceptors.
In addition, our p4 curriculum is modeled to provide an extensive outpatient experience that mimics a true family medicine practice. Being an innovative p4 program allows me to choose electives tailored to my specific education goals. The curriculum also includes such longitudinal experiences as working at outreach clinics and doing procedures, including colonoscopies and Implanon and IUD placements.
CRMEF has gone through its share of challenges over the last two years. But I think that in surmounting these challenges we have become a stronger program, one built on a solid foundation, with an amazing group of faculty, staff and residents who work every day for the same cause—to make CRMEF an even better place, an even better residency.
